So I got a new tablet. I am so stoked, so I painted this to kinda test it out, map my buttons, calibrate it, etc.
Used photoshop CS5 and Corel Painter 12
The forms a little off, I didn't have a good reference handy and I'm out of "people practice"
I've kinda always had a problem with Samson hahaha. I read Judges and it's full of great men and women of faith following God and delivering Israel from enemies and apostasy time and time again. Then you get to Samson...he kills a lion, marries a girl he shouldn't, messes with his wedding guests, slaughters people to pay them what he owes them, burns a field by tying torches to 300 foxes, kills 1000 men with a jawbone of a donkey, has an affair with Delilah which leads to him getting his locks cut and his eyes ripped out which leads to this scene in the temple of Dagon.
It just seems like his life was spent playing pranks and living for himself. Hebrews 11 has given me more understanding about the guy. He is listed in the passage as an example of one who had great faith.
"And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens."
"Out of weakness were made strong"...The only time you see Samson cry out to the Lord is at the very end of his life when his strength has left him. He asks God to give him strength one more time.
Jesus seems to always be bringing us to a place where we have to rely totally on him. In our weakness He is strong. The more I look at Samson's life the more it seems to me that he is a model of many of us. We kind of go through life, doing our own thing, say we believe but live like we don't. God uses weak moments to get our attention and bring us back on track.
My prayer is that we don't follow our own path, don't wait to call out to him; do it now. Follow Jesus wherever he leads. Be open to His voice. He is talking to us all the time, we just need to be still and listen to Him
and for goodness sakes don't burn down fields with foxes and torches.
